Board of Directors

How is the Board of Directors chosen?
Two Directors are elected from each of the original three fire districts that now comprise the Battle Creek Fire Protection District. Directors are elected by members who attend the annual general meeting held during the first quarter of the year.

When does the Board of Directors meet?
The Board of Directors meet quarterly, or more often as needed. Meetings are open to the public.  Meeting dates, times, and agendas are posted at this site.  The written minutes from past meetings are archived for transparency.

How is the Fire Protection District funded?
State statutes enable The Battle Creek Fire Protection District to levy taxes on real property within its boundaries.  These taxes are collected by Custer and Pennington County and returned to the Fire Protection District.  Federal assistance, state grants and community fundraising also contribute. The Board, with the Department in an advisory role, decides how local tax revenue is spent in order to provide fire and emergency services within the district.

Current Directors

The board consists of six community members who manage fiscal responsibility, set policy, oversee regulatory compliance, and ensure the department is equipped to meet future growth demands.
